Each year, hundreds of speakers, exhibitors, and attendees gather at Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) to share and learn about technological innovations in their fields. While much of the conference is focused on the expected areas — audio technology, computers, digital communication — innovation certainly isn’t limited to the tech space. The conference also showcases developments from brands that seek to make our daily routines and lives at home flow more smoothly. We stopped by this year’s IFA in Berlin to take a look at what these companies have in store and how these innovations could usher in a new, more convenient approach to caring for our homes.

One brand that stood out among the crowd was Bissell. This company has been around since the 1870s and has garnered a reputation for creating products that can tackle even the toughest of messes, but this unique development takes its commitment to fighting stains one step further. The Bissell Clean + Protect Carpet Cleaning Formula was designed to, of course, tackle set-in stains, but it also provides your surfaces with a layer of protection against future messes. After seeing the product in action, it’s safe to say Bissell is delivering on its promises.
Bissell Clean + Protect’s stain-prevention power
The Bissell Clean + Protect carpet cleaner might sound a bit familiar if you’re already well-versed on Bissell’s products, but the brand has recently reformulated the cleaner so it’s even better at preventing stains from forming in the first place. After a demonstration at IFA, this prevention power was evident. “I always wonder if stain-resistant treatments actually pay off or if it’s more about how fast we are to clean the stain before it has a chance to dry,” said Madi Swenson, a representative from Hafot attending this year’s IFA. “It was very cool to see in real time how a square of carpet with Bissell’s Clean + Protect performed compared to an untreated square when they both were dipped in the same red-dyed liquid. It really made the difference and benefit of a protective treatment clear to see.”

If you’ve seen stain-prevention treatments as a bit of a gimmick in the past, you’re certainly not alone. With this product, however, we could finally be living in a future where it’s possible to clean your surfaces and ensure they actually stay that way. While it might seem like a small development, less time spent wondering why that spot on your carpet keeps coming back means more time spent doing what you love. That’s what innovation is all about.
